The Susten Pass in Switzerland 🇨🇭 has its peak on 2260 meter / 7414 ft above sea level and serves mainly tourism. Comparing the the Susten to other Swiss Alpine Passes we have experienced, we would always give it a five star superior rating. We will always shout out "Susten Pass" if we're asked for our favourite Swiss driving road.
STELVIO PASS, ITALY
We love the Stelvio Pass in Italy 🇮🇹 BUT we would't go as far and call it the world's best driving road. But without a doubt since 2008 the Stelvio is surely the most famous driving road in the world. Visitors from all over the planet kicking the Stelvio off their bucket-list every summer.
GROSSGLOCKNER PASS, AUSTRIA
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road in Austria 🇦🇹 is 48 kilometres / 30 miles made of pure driving pleasure, has 36 turns and up to six meters road width in the best possible condition. The sheer size of the pass and the spectacular never ending panoramas are an absolute highlight of every trip to Austria.
ROUTE NAPOLEON, FRANCE
The legendary Route Napoleon in France 🇫🇷 is a 325 KM / 200 Miles long holiday route in France starting at the sea-side town of Golfe-Juan at the French Riviera and goes through the Alps Maritimes all the way North to Grenoble. Look out for the statues of the French Imperial Eagle.
GRIMSEL PASS, SWITZERLAND
The Grimsel Pass in Switzerland 🇨🇭 is a 38 kilometre / 24 miles long alpine pass and one of the highest paved roads in Europe with usually only little traffic. The breathtakingly beautiful mountain road in this pristine landscapes with deep valleys make it an absolute drivers paradise that goes up to 2164 meters above sea level.
FURKA PASS, SWITZERLAND
The Furka Pass in Switzerland 🇨🇭 goes up to 2341 meters / 7680 ft and runs between Gletsch and Andermatt. The mountain pass has a long history since the 14th century. The fame came in 1964 when Sean Connery as 007 James Bond chased over the Furka Pass in his Aston Martin DB5.

The San Bernardino Pass 🇨🇭 links the Central Swiss Alps where mostly German is spoken to the Italian-speaking region of Switzerland. Travelling along the pass is an enchanting driving experience with change of architecture, cuisine and culture between the North and the South.

B500 BLACK FOREST ROAD, GERMANY
The Black Forest High Road in Germany 🇩🇪 describes the most scenic part of the B500 Holiday Route running between the spa-town of Baden-Baden in the North and the Swiss border in the South. Don't be bothered to pronounce "Schwarzwaldhochstrasse" so its German name. Stick to B500 and follow a wonderful scenic route.
KLAUSEN PASS, SWITZERLAND
The Klausen Pass in Switzerland 🇨🇭 can be a bit of a thrill for unexperienced drivers. The road gets narrow in some areas and you need to stop occasionally for oncoming traffic. If driving in the Alps for the first time and not familiar with the alpine conditions or simply if you are a nervous driver we recommend to not come here.

FLUELA PASS, SWITZERLAND
The Fluela Pass in Switzerland 🇨🇭 goes up to 2363 metres and connects the town of Susch with Davos, the highest altitude town in Europe. In 2015, Avis - one of the biggest car rental firms in the world, awarded the pass to be number four of the 25 top driving roads in the world.
HAHNTENNJOCH PASS, AUSTRIA
The Hantennjoch Pass in Austria 🇦🇹 is literally carved into the rock you and very exciting with constant changing scenery and of excellent built quality. Before the actual pass begins there is a nice section of 8 to 10 sweeping cambered bends and this is when you realise the road will be a lot of fun. But watch out for the signs!
ALBULA PASS, SWITZERLAND
The Albula in Switzerland 🇨🇭 is a very varied road amidst the wonderful Engadin Alps near the elegant mountain resort of Saint Moritz. Some parts have a touch of the Scottish Highlands and here and there the Albula Pass gets a little narrow. However, the locals drive the Albula Pass with a lot of confidence.
GOTTHARD PASS, SWITZERLAND
The Gotthard Pass in Switzerland 🇨🇭 is also called: “King of the Mountain Passes" because of ots importance. Sometimes when there is a lot of traffic between the North and the South of the Swiss Alps for example at the start of a bank holiday it is the faster alternative to the 17 KM long Gotthard tunnel and truly a delight.
